Mediation And Community Support Ltd (MACS) enabling people to find workable solutions in difficult situations in South Warwickshire
What is mediation?

| Why turn to mediation? | Although some conflicts may seem trivial—if nothing is done to address the issues, they can often escalate from simple resentment to breakdown in communication, retaliation and even violence and criminal offences. Early intervention with the use of mediation can bring about peaceful and constructive resolutions with little cost to those involved. Even if a face to face meeting does not take place or an agreement is not reached, people often find that looking at the problem in another way can make a difference. Taking part in mediation has never been shown to make matters worse.

What are the benefits of mediation? |
Mediation focuses on improving understanding and facilitating communication between people in conflict. It can help those involved gain a better appreciation of the issues, resulting in improved relationships between them. Mediation is a constructive and common sense approach which produces practical, workable and realistic solutions. Mediation is provided free to the general public and is a much quicker and a less stressful process than other options. It is less risky as parties only settle when they are satisfied with the agreement. Mediation always aims to achieve a win/win resolution. This is unlike going to court where they take the risk of having the judge decide against them and losing their case.

Who are the Mediators? |
Our Mediators have completed an in-depth accredited training programme in mediation and have been approved by our service. They work in pairs, selected for their complementary skills and knowledge. They are impartial and won’t take sides in any dispute. They will not blame or tell people what to do. Mediators use their skills and experience to help people communicate and look at new ideas for solutions.

| What do mediators do? | Mediators visit people separately in their own homes, (or preferred venue) hear what has happened and explain how mediation works (see the Mediation Process). If everyone is happy to continue, they will arrange further meetings. They will help people identify issues to be sorted out and to look at ideas for solutions that are realistic and will work. Any joint meeting will be arranged at a neutral venue. Mediators guide the people through a constructive problem solving approach and draw out the differences in a helpful way so that solutions can be found.
